Ambassador Cruise’s MS Ambience to Norway and the Northern Lights

Ambassador Cruise’s MS Ambience

Voyage to Norway and the Northern Lights

In the late fall, we boarded MS Ambience in Tilbury, London UK, for a 16-night, 17-day Norwegian Cruise north beyond the Arctic Circle.    This would be an amazing and memorable experience, taking us from England and Scotland across the North and Norwegian Seas and into the Arctic before returning to visit Orkney.

This photo blog series documents the journey, including the experience of voyaging from the United Kingdom to Norway, crossing the Arctic Circle, seeing Northern Lights, connecting with the Way of St. Olav, and the St. Magnus Way.

Whether you’re dreaming of a similar Norwegian and Northern Lights journey or simply curious about what happens on an Ambassador Cruise voyage, these posts aims to share the natural wonders, stunning Northern Lights, and challenges of Pub Trivia that occurred between ports of call as well as all the quiet moments of connection that take place when the land slips past and all that remains is the movement of the seas.

Journey’s End and What’s Next

Final Reflection

Though only a quick journey in itself, our time on Ambience is both a bridge between hikes and a preparation for a longer series of slow travel adventures connecting trails, rails and sails across the world.

On this voyage, we explored a section of the Thames Path National Trail and St. Olav Way Pilgrimage route in Norway, both of which, along with the North Downs Way in the UK, and Kungsleden in Sweden, we plan to trek in the future.

Ambassador Cruises Ambience Norwegian and Northern Lights Cruise

Our voyage on MS Ambience is only the most recent of our slow travel journeys.  Having just completed 18,000 km of the 28,000 km-long Trans Canada Trail over the course of 6 years, as well as undertaking pilgrimages on the Camino Frances, Camino Portuguese Coastal route,  the Via Podiensis, Via de la Plata, Camino Sanabres, Camino Madrid, Camino San Salvador, Camino Primitivo, and Camino Finisterre

We have travelled across Canada on Via Rail’s iconic trains, the Ocean and the Canadian, and twice crossed the north Atlantic on the world’s last ocean liner, Cunard’s Queen Mary 2 and sailed from the Caribbean to Europe on Wind Surf.

See you on the journey!
